James Brown was born on May 3, 1933, in Barnwell, South Carolina, to a poverty-stricken family. He experienced many difficulties as a youngster growing up during the Great Depression, including parental abandonment and a troubled upbringing.

Despite these challenges, James found inspiration and consolation in music, especially gospel and rhythm & blues.

James Brown established a group named “The Famous Flames” in the early 1950s, and the group started traveling the Chitlin’ circuit, a network of venues that catered largely to African-American audiences during the time of racial segregation.

At this point, people began to take notice of Brown’s enthralling performances and creative stage presence.

James Brown’s career progressed significantly in 1964 after he had a ground-breaking performance in the popular concert movie The T.A.M.I. Show.
