He was born Randy Yeuell Owen on December 13, 1949, in Fort Payne, Alabama, U.S. As of the year of writing the article, Randy Owen is 73 years old.

He has an English and Scottish ethnic background. He attended Fort Payne High and graduated in 1969. Randy and his cousin Teddy Gentry, started playing music in the late 1960s.

Jeff Cook, another cousin of theirs joined in to form a band called Wildcountry. They happened to win their first public performance, which took place at a high school talent show.

The father of Alison Sena Yeuell soon earned an English degree from Jacksonville State University. This put a halt to his music career. While in school, he was part of Pi Kappa Phi, Delta Epsilon Chapter.

After his graduation, he and his cousins moved into an apartment in Anniston, Alabama. Their music career kick-off fully by 1973. They soon changed the band name to Alabama.

The band signed a record deal with RCA Records in 1980. Within no time, they became an overnight sensation and had so much success.

They sold over 75 million records and released 42 singles that topped the charts at #1, and 21 gold, platinum, and multi-platinum albums. In 1989, they earned an Academy of Country Music’s Artist of the Decade award.

The following year, they were named the Recording Industry Association of America’s Country Group of the Century. Alabama revealed its retirement during the Academy of Country Music Awards telecast in May 2002.

They did several performances around the country in their American Farewell Tour in 2002 and 2003. The group soon got inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005.

The father of Alison Sena Yeuell currently resides on his own cattle ranch outside Fort Payne. Owen is an at-large member of the Board of Trustees of Jacksonville State University.

In 2007, he served as a judge on Season 5 of the country American reality television singing competition program titled Nashville Star.

From July 21, 2012, he became the host for Country Gold, the Saturday night classic country request program on Westwood One. On April 2, 2016, he ended his hosting duties.
