He was Marion Hugh Knight Jr. on April 19, 1965, in Compton, California, U.S. As of the date of writing the article, Suge Knight is 57 years old.
He will celebrate his 58th birthday on April 19, 2023. His parents are Marion Knight, Sr. and Maxine Chatman. Growing up, he went to Lynwood High School where he played football and graduated in 1983.
In the same year, he enrolled at El Camino College. He played football there before he transferred to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1985 where he also played football.
He was soon undrafted in the 1987 NFL Draft. After that, he started working as a bodyguard for Bobby Brown and other celebrities. The father of Posh Knight also worked as a concert promoter.

He established his music publishing company in 1989. He soon signed The D.O.C and DJ Quik after forming an artist management company.
In 1991, The D.O.C., Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, and Dick Griffey founded the American Independent record label titled Death Row Records.
Suge Knight vowed to make the label “the Motown of the ’90s”, which he fulfilled when it secured a distribution deal with Interscope.
On December 15, 1992, Dre released his solo debut album titled The Chronic. By the end of 1993, the album became triple platinum status in the United States.
The label also produced Snoop Dogg‘s debut album Doggystyle which earned a quadruple platinum certification in the United States in 1994.
Knight soon started a feud with American rapper, actor, record producer, and record executive Sean Combs a.k.a Puff Daddy. It escalated when he insulted Combs on air at the Source Awards in August 1995.
He said, “Anyone out there who wanna be a recording artist and wanna stay a star, and don’t have to worry about the executive producer trying to be all in the videos, all on the records, dancing, come to Death Row.”
Combs received death threats from gangsters connected to Knight. American Baptist minister, radio host, activist, politician, and author Conrad Tillard asked Knight to stop terrorizing Combs.
Tillard counseled and protected Combs by sending elite guards from his Mosque No. 7 to guard Combs.
Tupac Shakur was offered US$1.4 million post bail by Knight if he agreed to sign with Death Row. Shakur agreed and his albums The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory and All Eyez on Me were released.

Knight was being accused of being involved in Shakur’s murder. He was sentenced to five years’ probation for assaulting two rappers in the summer of 1992 at a Hollywood recording studio, in a 1995 federal case.
He was portrayed in biographical films such as Too Legit: The MC Hammer Story, 2009 American biographical drama film titled Notorious which starred Jamal Woolard, Angela Bassett, Derek Luke, Anthony Mackie, Sean Ringgold, Anwan Glover, and several others.
